Overview of College of Economics

The history of College of Economics can be traced back to the Agricultural Economics Teaching Group of Agricultural Department of College of Agriculture of Sichuan University in 1943. After the college of Agriculture was independently established in Ya’an in 1956, it retained agronomy teaching and research section in agronomy department. Then Sichuan Agricultural College resumed enrolling students majoring in Agricultural Economics. The Agricultural Economics Teaching Group was expanded to the Department of Agricultural Economics in 1983. Then in 1993, the department was reconstructed into College of Economics and Trade. In 2003, it was developed and renamed as College of Economics and Management. In February 2011, the College of Economics and Management moved to Chengdu Campus of Sichuan Agricultural University. At the beginning of 2015, the School was divided into two parts: College of Economics and College of Management.

There are around 72 staff members in the College of Economics, including 11 professors, 13 associate professors, 45 lecturers with PhD title and 24 lecturers with Master degree, 3 of the teachers have special government benefits, 4 academic and technical leaders in Sichuan province. The College of Economics mainly consists of 4 departments, which are Economics Department, International Economics and Trade Department, Financial Department, Investment Department. Besides, the College of Economics owns Economic Experimental Center and part-time Student Educational Center (in charge of MA, adult education, distance education and self-study) Institute of Regional Economy and Finance(IREF),Zentrum fuer Deutschlandsforschung(ZDF) and Southwest China Research Center for Poverty Alleviation and Development are all affiliated to the College of Economics.

The college possesses 1 post-doctoral research stations in the major of Agricultural Economics and Management, 2 disciplines with the right to award doctoral degree(Management of Forest Economy, Rural and Regional Development),and 1 disciplines with the right to award Master degree (Applied Economics), 4 full-time academic master's degrees (Regional Economics, Finance, Industrial Economics, Management of Forest Economy) and 2 professional master's degrees in public administration (MPA) and master of agriculture (MA).There are respectively 11 doctoral supervisors and 50 master supervisors. There are 4 majors awarding bachelor degree of economics (which are Economics, International Economics and Trade, Finance, and Investment). Finance and Economics have been approved as provincial-level First-class Undergraduate Majors. Currently the college has over 1,900 full-time undergraduates, 210 postgraduates currently studying at the School and International students (undergraduates, master and Doctor) are accepted more than 50 annually. Besides, there are also over 240 on-the-job postgraduate students.

The College of Economics had successfully undertaken almost 300 research projects respectively financed by from National Natural Science Foundation and National Social Science Foundation, as well as by other national-level and provincial-level foundations and international cooperation projects. Until now, we published over 30 monographs, and more than 200 papers included in SCI, SSCI, EI, CSSCI(Chinese Social Science Citation Index) in journals such as The Quarterly Journal of Economics, Agricultural Economics, Emerging Markets Finance and Trade. We also have been awarded more than 20 scientific research achievement prizes above the provincial level.
